In the Governament of Karanataka there are three clearly defined and important cadres namely  Indian Administrative Services, Karnataka Administrative Services, Secretariat Services. Though these three cadres are well known among the public and in administration, there is one cadre which is playing a major role in the governance, i.e. Karnataka General Services. This cadre is not structured and  is disintegrated in the sense the officers borne on this cadre have jurisdiction limited to their respective departments. The officers recruited for the Departments like Printing & Stationery, Libraries, School Education and Literacy, Transport, Labour, ESI, Prosecutions, Factories and Boilers etc., are borne on this cadre. For the welfare of all the cadres a platform is required and accordingly there are associations of KAS officers, IAS officers, Karnataka Government Secretariat Officers. For non gazetted officers there is Karnataka State Government Employees Association.

However, there is no association for the Karnataka general service officers and more particularly for Group-A Gazetted officers. No emphasis is required that a platform is very much required for a particular group to take care of their welfare and to voice their opinion and grievances. It is also required to guide the government in formulating policies for the public and the Employees. Considering the need for such an association a group of Senior Officers borne on Karnataka General Services of different departments took a decision to form an association in the name of “Karnataka Group-A Gazetted Officers’ Association”, in a meeting convened on 15^th August 2014. On 6^th of January 2015 the first General Body meeting was convened and a resolution was passed to adopt the bye laws drafted and to get the registration of the Association done in the office of the registrar of co-operative societies under the Co-operative Societies Act 1960. Accordingly the Association was registered in the office of the Deputy registrar of co-operative societies, Bengaluru on 01-08-2015.

Thus the Karnataka Group-A Gazetted Officers’ Association was founded and established
